Northfield has this secret gem of a place. It's a pizza farm and it's at Red Barn and run by Pat and Tammi Winter, amazing folks. Every Wednesday night they open up their property to the public and they bake amaaaaazing pizzas from scratch in their brick oven with ingredients from their farm, and if not, as local as possible. They're large pizzas with thin yet doughy crust, not too much cheese, and feature the fresh ingredients on top. Also, the place is hopping, it's absolutely impossible to go to the pizza farm and not run into a significant portion of the town. You bring your own beer or wine if you please, utensils and plates if you please, and a blanket. And I spent my first night of the season there tonight, just marvelous. It was a grand time, I met up with a group of farmers from SEEDS, StGro, Carleton, and the Rural Enterprise Center. I forgot my camera but there will be pics of the farm soon, I have a graduation celebration to attend there in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to it!
Otherwise, I worked at the co-op during the day and got in a couple of hours work at the SEEDS farm spreading composted manure on some brassicas. Oh yea, and the goats finally moved from their old location to the property, here's a picture of Joey (the human) and Adelle (the goat):

John at his farm just outside of Northfield.
While I was off and mingling at the pizza farm, Dan and Rich joined our friend John the cherry farmer at his place. John is just starting his orchard this year, so the 3 of them dug 700 (!) holes where the trees are going to be planted these next couple of days. So cool, right? I work at the co-op from 7am - 8pm tomorrow so there will be no farming but I'm hoping to join them after their hard planting day to enjoy the barbecue and beers that are to follow.
